The Veritas #4-1/2 Smoothing plane with PM-V11 iron No. 05P23.50 is excellent for final surface smoothing and is one of the most commonly used bench planes in the workshop thanks to its versatility. The Veritas smoothing plane sole is 10" (241mm) long and approximately 2-7/8" (5.08cm) wide. The flat sole of this plane has 90° sides and extra large side wings. This makes it easy to trim with this metal plane from Veritas, thanks to the side support.

As a special feature of this plane, the frog (the adjustable flap on which the PM-V11 plane iron is fixed) extends to the sole. This way you can work with low vibration and the plane iron has a very good support. With the frog you can adjust the size of the jaw for a fine chip. Thanks to this special design, you can adjust the mouth without having to loosen the iron or the flap.

The plane body including the frog are made of ductile cast iron.

The plane iron is 3.2mm (1/8") long and approx. 5 cm (2-3/8") wide. We offer the veritas #4-1/2 Smoothing plane with the PM-V11 iron. This powder-metallurgical steel has proven itself in the professional field and stands +for very long service life and good sharpenability.

For easy centring of the plane iron, this veritas smoothing plane #4-1/2 Smoothing plane has screws embedded in the side walls. You can also use these to set the lateral, side play. With the two knurled screws above the handle, you can easily fine-tune the iron and align it laterally.

Thanks to the large wooden handles, you have very good and controlled guidance when planing with this plane.
