Plasta, putty, molding, impression material, accessories in violin making - gluing a tuning lining

To glue a tuning lining into the top of a violin, it is important to take precautions to prevent damage to the instrument. One important step is to cover the top of the violin with cling film to prevent the glue from sticking to the instrument.

To prevent the lining from crumpling when clamped, an underlay is necessary. SK-DENTEC-putty is a good choice for this purpose, as it will not stick to the instrument. It is important to keep the two components of the putty separate, using separate spatulas for each, to prevent them from accidentally mixing.

The two components are kneaded together by hand in a 1:1 ratio before being applied to the underlay. A caul is then placed on top to distribute the force evenly. After 4 and a half to 10 minutes, the putty will have hardened and can be removed. It will be as hard as plaster, but more dimensionally stable and less likely to break.

By following these steps, the tuning lining can be successfully glued into the top of the violin without causing damage to the instrument.

Moulding Plasta, Putty & impression material in model making

In model making, moulding is often used to create a copy from an original model. Different materials such as plaster, silicone or plastics can be used, depending on the requirements of the final product.

To make an impression of a model, a mould must first be made. For this purpose, the original model is placed in a moulding compound or the model to be removed is pressed into the moulding compound. The moulding compound can be made of plaster or silicone, whereby silicone has the advantage that it is more flexible and easier to remove.

After the mould has been created, it can be filled with a desired material. Again, there are different options depending on the requirements of the final product. For example, plastic can be used to create a stable copy or plaster to create a lighter copy.

It is important to pay attention to a clean and precise working method when moulding in model making in order to obtain a copy of the original that is as accurate as possible. The choice of suitable material also plays a decisive role in achieving a high-quality end product.
