Description

Hide glue gelatine granules for restoration and new making

This high quality hide glue gelatine granules are especially developed for restoration and new making for luthiers / violin makers and restorers. An easy to handle glue, which has got the properties of and highest standard of gelatine glues, like the japanese hide glues and the easy handling of "normal" and well known hide glue.

While gluing stringed instruments during the new building or restoration process, it is particularly important that you can 100% rely on the performance of the hide glue while it is invisible to the eye. The glue that is used must remain neutral during priming, varnishing and retouching and guarantee a clean, non-color-modified joint.

In cooperation with one of the world's leading producers of technical & medical gelatine and animal-based glue, we have added to our portfolio LUT Universal specifically for violin making and restoration requirements. This hide glue gelatine granules is specially purified and has excellent adhesive properties. Thanks to our adept partner we can guarantee a consistently high and reliable quality.

Colourless warm glue for professional use

During production, our warm glue is cleaned of fibres, turbidity and insoluble particles through various stages. That is why the transmissions are so high and the colour so low. The result is a high quality warm glue for professional use.

> Recommended use of Hide Glue<

In order to become familiar with the handling, it is recommended to perform a gluing test before use. The glue concentration depends on the desired strength and processing time during application. Usually, glue concentrations in the range of 1% -20% are used. We recommend always keeping the glue fresh.

  1. The glue preparation procedure begins with the initial swelling process. The granules are able to absorb five to ten times their weight in cold water. Place the glue granules in to a heat-resistant glass jar, to this, add cold, distilled water so that the water is about 1/3 of the volume above the glue granules.
  2. Allow the glue to stand for 1 to 2 hours until all the granules are swollen.
  3. To dissolve the swollen glue, place the jar in to a water bath at 50-70°C. In order to prevent the incorporation of air, do not stir initially, but only when a large proportion of the granules are dissolved. (The temperature of the liquid glue can maintained between 50-60°C. At these temperatures, the glue can be kept liquid for several hours without large losses of gel strength.)
  4. Allow the glue to cool and completely gel.
  5. Before application, the second melting in the water bath can create a skin and absorbed air in the form of foam on the surface, remove this with a brush. At temperatures of 50-60°C, the glue can be kept liquid for several hours without any loss of gel strength and is now suitable for crack repair and glue joints. At temperatures above 60°C, the glue will increasing lose viscosity and gel strength.
  6. The ideal processing room temperature is between 25°C-35°C. In general, the cooler, the shorter the processing period. If the glue is applied too quickly or begins to thicken we recommended increasing the glue temperature to 60°C. A hand warm temperature of the spot to be glued can also prove to be helpful. Infrared heaters extend the processing time.
