In violin making and restoration, it is essential to correctly identify wood species. However, due to the age of the instruments, this is not always easy and unambiguous, despite experience. With the Wood Atlas by Rudi Wagenführ & André Wagenführ in the 7th, completely revised and expanded edition (7/2006), we provide you with the right tool for determining wood species. It comprises 816 pages. With 264 alphabetically sorted wood species with textures and microphotos in colour. The reference book comes in a hard cover and slipcase.

The Wood Atlas by Rudi Wagenführ is the standard work on wood species identification

In the Wood Atlas, 264 important commercial and industrial woods are described in detail and presented with numerous coloured texture illustrations as well as microscopic structure images (cross-section, and tangential and radial sections). The wood species are arranged alphabetically according to the trade names commonly used in Germany. Notes on processing, durability and use as well as on wood defects, wood pests, the trade and similar wood species round off the explanations.

Identifying wood species from A to Z

There are up to 30,000 species of wood worldwide, of which up to 5,000 are suitable for commercial purposes and almost 600 are on the market.

This 7th new edition has been completely redesigned and the following points have been added to the content: international code according to EN 13556, durability according to EN 350, Cites protection code as a result of the EU Timber Trade Regulation.

We offer you the appropriate measuring loupes, magnifiers and microscops for carrying out wood species identification and analysis.
