Japanese Nomi chisel with wooden edge

This high quality hand forged Japanese Ioroi Nomi chisel has a blade length of approx. 60 mm, total length of approx. 230 mm and a blade thickness of approx. 5 mm.

The blade of this Japanese nomi chisel is forge-welded by hand from two layers. A soft carrier layer that merges into the tang and a hard cutting edge layer. The traditional Japanese chisels convince with white paper steel, which is used in the cutting layer.

Premium steel from the Hitachi company

White paper steel from the Hitachi company, is very hard to cut and at the same time easy to sharpen. White paper steel is an extremely high-quality carbon steel made from iron sand. This steel is excellent for cutting tools, chisels and chisels.

Japanese chisels for the professional craftsman

This Japanese chisel is for the professional craftsman. The white paper steel has been raised and sheathed at the edges to the black, softer carrier steel. This keeps the edge sharp for longer and the chisel keeps its shape. Simple Japanese chisels for amateurs, on the other hand, are forged flat. This means that the white paper steel lies flat on the black carrier steel and the edges have an open material change.

Special feature: mirrored side with ground joint

As a special feature, the IOROI NOMI chisels from Japan have a hollow grind on the mirror side to facilitate sharpening. By regularly honing the mirror side, the hollow grind moves backwards and with it the edge of the blade.

Premium chisels from a small Japanese forge IOROI

These chisels IOROI NOMI with a red oak handle and a steel ferrule are hand-forged by Mr. Ioroi in a small forge in Japan. Japanese forges like this are mostly small one-man operations that deliver premium quality, high-tech and the best chisels in the world.
